360 waves is a term for a type of hairstyle.  360 waves help to tame unruly curls into manageable attractive waves that lie flat against the head.

These waves are in a natural looking pattern that form around the perimeter of the head in a 360-degree angle. When 360 waves are correctly done, they create rings around the head – Hence the name.

If you’d like to begin getting 360 waves, your hair should be at least one and a half inch in length. If your hair is too short, waves may not be able to form. Know that creating beautiful 360 waves is a process and requires both dedication and time.

If you’re committed, follow the steps below and you’ll be on your way to getting the 360 waves that you want.

PROCEDURE

Step 1
Start by applying a small amount of pomade to clean, dry hair. Pomade will help to facilitate stronger waves in the hair due to extra hold from the gel.

The pomade should be just enough to cover the area of hair that you wish to have waves in. It should also be distributed evenly and done twice a day – once in the morning and once at night.

Use a pomade like the All Natural 360 Wave Pomade that’s made with all natural ingredients to provide the best results.

Step 2
Once you’ve placed the pomade in your hair, apply pressure and cover with a towel that has been soaked in hot water – Ensure that the towel is wet, but not dripping.

Press the towel onto your hair for about two minutes or until the pomade has melted.

Step 3
Begin brushing your hair with a good quality hand brush that’s soft and effective like the Torino Pro Wave Brush. Always brush your hair evenly around your head and in the direction that it’s growing.

For optimal results, you want to brush your hair for at least 10 minutes. This way, your hair will start to develop waves.  To know whether you’d like to use a Hard Brush or a Soft Brush check out our other article to know their difference.

Step 4
After brushing your hair, you can cover your head with either a du-rag or wave cap. If you use a du-rag, you want to bind your hair flat and leave it tightly covered for as long as possible.

When you’ve just removed the du-rag, try not to brush your hair.

If you’re using a wave cap, make sure that it fits snug around your head. Having a tight wave cap will ensure that your hair continues to develop waves.

You’ll also want to wear your wave cap as much as possible during the day. You can try using this Stocking Wave Cap that’s wrinkle-free and elastic.

Step 5

Repeat the entire styling process (steps one through four) at least 1 to 2 times a day, for an entire month to set the style.

Step 6
To retain the waves in your hair, you will need to wash your hair to keep it hydrated and moisturized. Start washing your hair 1-2 weeks after step 4, as time is needed to process the waves. If you wash your hair too early, the wave pattern may become loose.

After the 1 to 2-week mark, you should wash your hair once a week to receive maximum results. Start by using a shampoo like the Waves Builder Wash In Waves – a super gentle wave saving formula with added wave forming power.

While you’re washing your hair, you should brush the shampoo into your hair with warm water, going in the direction of the waves. This allows the wave pattern to be retained even when the hair is wet.

After shampooing, brush your hair and rinse it with cool water.

After washing your hair and while your hair is slightly damp, rub the pomade into your hair so that it will be absorbed easily. Continue to brush the pomade into the hair and ensure that it is completely absorbed.

Proceed to do this throughout the day and throughout the week for 5-10 minute intervals. While it might be time-consuming, it is a necessary step to perfect waves.

Step 6
Other than adhering to the styling process and taking good care of your hair, you should also take vitamins to ensure good, healthy hair. Head to your nearest pharmacy to purchase multivitamins and biotin vitamins as an added supplement.

Rules
If you want 360 waves, there are some essential rules that you must adhere to:

  • If you’re using a du-rag, do not brush your hair after you’ve removed it.
  • Do not shampoo your hair for 1-2 weeks while the waves are being processed. If you do so, you run the risk of losing your wave pattern.
  • Do not get a haircut for 2-3 weeks. You may get a lineup, but refrain from getting a full haircut. Once you get waves all the way around the head, you can proceed to get a haircut with a 1½ guard. It is crucial to ensure that your barber does not use a guard that’s less than 1½.
  • Brushing your hair evenly is vital because you do not want waves to only appear on certain parts of your head.
  • It may take up to six weeks for waves to appear. This is why each day, you must repeat the steps above for waves to form.

Conclusion
As you can tell, it takes patience and perseverance to get the perfect 360 waves. However, if you’re willing to make it work while taking the time and effort to craft beautiful 360 waves, you’ll be sure to reap the rewards of your labor.
