Reviews of the WAHL 8081

I have used the Wahl 8081 for over 4 years now and have always kept a new one in stock.  These trimmers are so powerful and so precise for when you really need a extra detailed haircut.

 

Not only with the lineup portion of the haircut but with shaving down to the skin either on the head or on the beard.   Especially with those clients that have extremely difficult and moveable hair to cut.  I give the trimmer an excellent rating for these reasons.  Others have given both positive and negative.

 

Reviews of the WAHL 8081 trimmer vary, and range from extremely positive to negative. Although, after doing some research and digging, we were able to figure out what was happening to have such a wide range of extremely positive to equally negative reviews on one single product.

 

Many people have reviewed the trimmer and decided to take it to another level by not only using it to trim but shave and cut clients hair completely. Although this is not for the intended use, there has been a widely agreed upon consensus that the product is much stronger than would be assumed.

 

When it came to the negative reviews, it seemed that they were directed more at the WAHL brand itself, and not necessarily the product. Although this is a bit confusing to people researching to find a good option for a trimmer, we are here to help break down the “Good” and “Bad” and help you make the right decision for your needs.

 

 

Advantages

 

The WAHL 8081 5-Star Detailer is known for its compact size, yet strong cutting abilities. Many reviews have reported that it is very easy on the skin, and people have not experienced irritation that typically happened when using other clippers and trimmers.

 

One thing that I can say from personal experience is that the blades mixed in with the power make it that much more susceptible for cutting your clients.  If you do not have your blade set right, and have the moving (cutting) blade zero gapped, you may be experiencing some cuts on a regular basis.

 

Please make sure that the blade is set correctly and try it on your skin first before you try it on a client.

 

The trimmer is very quiet, and everyone agrees the durability is one of the best on the market.  Especially if you disinfect and oil after every client, this trimmer will last you for years.  Every time it is oiled it seems to get even more quiet over time. 

 

Disadvantages

 

A few reviews across different platforms claimed that the trimmer only lasts about a year. Although we can’t confirm by these statements if they were only using the trimmer for the intended use, or using it to shave and cut hair that would be better completed with a clipper designed for that purpose.

 

There are other clippers that one can use to fade or to zero down the hair, if your clients desired look is a bald fade look.  In my experience, this clipper has lasted me over 4 years and still going strong.  Proper maintenance is the key.

 

Others stated that when they purchased the trimmer, they received “refurbished” ones, and were not happy (of course). Again, we can’t confirm if these were purchased from WAHL directly (which we highly doubt), or on a third-party website that could be going to other resellers that are not being honest with their customers. We believe the latter is the case when it comes to having “refurbished” trimmers sent to customers.

 

Overview of the Advantages & Disadvantages

 

The trimmer is small and compact and easily transported (for those who do cuts/styling in multiple places)

The efficiency of the cuts is impressive.

There is very little skin irritation, if any, compared to other clippers, unless blade is set incorrectly and zero gapped.

The unit is extremely quiet, especially if properly oiling and disinfecting.

The durability and strength of the unit is excellent.

The mixture of “Good” and “Bad” reviews can be confusing, but you will realize most are directed towards the company, and not the trimmer itself.

 

The WAHL 8081 Detailer: Yes or No?

 

After extensive research and sifting through the many reviews, opinions, and information out there, we have to give a Yes!

 

Although there are conflicting reviews, after extensive research and looking at many different sources, we realized these negative reviews were from customers who had sadly bought their unit from a 3rd-party retailer, or second hand.

 

First hand experience also plays a part in our decision to say yes to the trimmer.  It is very powerful and very precise.  What more do you need from your go to trimmer.

 

A small tip from us to you: Remember, it is always best to buy from a trusted retailer, and to ensure that when you buy from online marketplaces such as Amazon, to check if it is from the retailer itself, or a 3rd party business that may not ensure the quality you expect when purchasing a new unit. This tip is a good rule of thumb is true for anything you are buying online!
